About freeing the airwaves
[ From the About page ]

FreeTheAirwaves.comOne of America's most valuable natural resources is our "white spaces" -- the radio airwaves, or spectrum, that have long carried analog TV signals. Three-fourths of the white spaces are completely unused today, and -- especially once TV is broadcast in digital only starting in 2009 -- could be used to kick-start a revolution in wireless technology, including universal wireless online access and numerous new products and services that can't even be imagined today.

This fall, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) will decide whether to make this spectrum available for anyone to use. At Google, we think more open access to the white spaces is essential, not only for companies like ours, but for society in general. But this outcome is far from certain, so we've joined a broad coalition of public interest groups and industry peers who are working to convince the FCC to free the airwaves and unleash the next generation of Internet innovation. We hope you'll add your voice to the debate by signing our petition and helping spread the word about this campaign.

Why Google cares

Google launched this website because we believe strongly that freeing the white spaces is crucial to the future of the Internet. Make no mistake: open access to this unused bandwidth would surely be good for our own bottom line (not to mention those of many of our industry peers); better access to the Internet means more people doing web searches and using our software products.

But we think the public interest here is paramount, and just as clear. Opening up the vast unused portion of spectrum will enable a new generation of innovation and competition from which consumers -- especially those to whom the white spaces could soon deliver high-speed online access -- should benefit tremendously, both from a wealth of new products and services and from far lower cell phone and Internet access bills.

We don't presume to speak for you and your interests, though; our goal is simply to explain why we think this issue is crucial and to highlight the many public interest groups, companies, activists and academics who also support this cause. We hope that once you've explored the facts for yourself, you'll want to make your voice heard, too, and urge the FCC to free the airwaves now.

Google forced to accept anti-abortion advertising - News, Gadgets &Tech...

Google forced to accept anti-abortion advertising... so if i start a search engine and decide i do NOT want the money from "satan worshippers international church of death" because they want to advertise on keywords like "god" and "bible"...then they can sue me and i can settle out of court and run their ad and all will be well? i loathe how people use the courts and WHY did Google not fight this? Apparently based on the "Equality Act 2006" - or at least this is what the Christian groups basis was.
YouTube - Pandoras Box Chronicles: Internet Censorship (Alex Jones)

Even if you think Alex Jones is full of shit, this stuff is easily verifiable; newspaper headlines, articles, etc. Do your homework, research, pass it on, tell your friends and family. Let's get some energy going on about this so that ISP's DON'T start charging $1 per gig. Can you think of a *better* way to censor people than to make it ridiculously hard for companies or people to disseminate their information at a reasonable cost?

Watch it on YouTube in case the SUVideo is *currently unavailable* or bypass SU version to start with - like I try to.

Thanks to Scili666 for passing this on to me. And thank you BlueFlameLeo for passing it on in your new "Review group." Thank you to everyone I sent it to who listened and/or sent it to someone else and/or told someone else about it.

No. Nope. Nopers. Visual interest is reserved for websites and content. When I am looking for information via reference [search engines, dictionaries, encyclopedias] I don't want clever graphics, color coding, and "pretty." I want the information as fast as possible and as simply as possible. This website is not only confusing to navigate but it's so hung up on its own cleverness I think it forgot who it should be catering to and that they would need fast load times as well as easy navigation. OH yeah - almost forgot. And being a "search engine", I would like for the results to be relevant to what I was looking for and they weren't. For all these reasons...No. SO no.

Newsvine - Prolific Spammers Conviction Upheld
Apr 6, 7:00am    (1 review)  law, internet, spam, email, anti-spam  http://www.newsvine.com/_news/2008/02/29...
A divided Virginia Supreme Court affirmed the nation's first felony conviction for illegal spamming. Jeremy Jaynes of Raleigh, N.C., considered among the world's top 10 spammers in 2003, was convicted of massive distribution of junk e-mail and sentenced to nine years in prison. Almost all 50 states have anti-spamming laws. In the 4-3 ruling, the court rejected Jaynes' claim that the state law violates both the First Amendment and the interstate commerce clause of the U.S. Constitution. "This is a historic victory in the fight against online crime," state Attorney General Bob McDonnell said in a written statement. "Spam not only clogs e-mail inboxes and destroys productivity; it also defrauds citizens and threatens the online revolution that is so critical to Virginia's economic prosperity."

Looks can be Deceiving

A really offensive-to-the-senses looking site design with some of the best activist information I have found packed into one site by one person. Not a blog [thank God] but many articles nevertheless that seem to remain static unless he feels the need to update or add to them.

Everything from fighting spambots to police brutality and how to change a bicycle tire and green living... this site's got it. A really worthwhile site.

If you thumb it up, please use appropriate tags. This site is not *about* bicycling. Goodness. [Just because it has bicycle links...]
