i remember specifically NOT showing this article to my friends on SU. Well. I guess they found it anyway! {{Thanks Pixie, Gracey, and Ariadelle}} Yeah...I've been in molting or something.

Article: Sensitivity in an Insensitive World

Hopefully this will offer
  1. Validation of your sensitivity
  2. Your unique traits
  3. Perception shifts so you don't have to feel the insensitivity of the world

...a snippet... You have the God given and God spirited right to be as unique and as different as you need to be. God has blessed people - some more than others - with an exceptionally large light and if we try to quench that light for the sake of other peoples' perceptions and hurtful words, well, for me, I realized I was going against myself, my intuitive voice, God, and the "who I am". It's wrong to do this on a basic level, but for me, it was life-threatening as I turned to alcohol and other harmful substances in which to keep me numb. I hope that if you are currently hurting yourself trying to *fit* and keep your light at a "low brightness" that you reconsider and realize the resources at your disposal in which to help you be the best that you were meant to be.

"Joanna describes herself as sensitive, and she is. But her reaction to my comments wasn't sensitivity; it was defensiveness. The two may feel identical to the person experiencing them, but actually they're worlds apart."

That's right. Being an HSP has nothing to do with being defensive although the two can exist in the same person. [Like the article, "Sensitive like TNT" is the Highly Defensive Person, where classic HSP is "Sensitive like an overclocked computer."]

However, because a person uses the term "sensitive" in order to paint nicely their defensiveness, it gives genuine Sensitives - who are not defensive - a bad impression onto people who'd otherwise not know the difference.

I love HSP's. My closest friends are all HSP's which basically means we can go days without talking and come back together knowing precisely where each other *were.* If I had a relationship with an HDP [Highly Defensive Person], I'd have to end it before I got too enmeshed, as I quit walking on eggshells about 4 years ago.

mysteries of the spirit boardMonday I was searching for a Spirit Board - or Ouija Board by a popular Tradename - in preparation for my friend coming for the weekend. He and I had spent 5 hours looking at store after store trying to find one the last time he was here.

So when I ordered two different ones online, late-night Monday evening, it was a whole new kind of stress to see if they would be here by the time *he* got here Saturday.

Well. They came tonight [Friday evening]. So, a big sigh of relief from me. I came onto Stumble and saw some HSP friends talking and wanted to come in to participate and see what was going on.

Imagine my surprise when, viewing the group as I do when I come into this forum, I saw an HSP member with the avatar of the spirit board to the left. I know it's no big deal but just another one of those *oh my* moments and I wanted to share it.

Because my friend this weekend is an HSP, I am very excited to see what the two of us can come up with - with the Spirit Boards. Surely one of them will yield some satisfying results, as I ordered two different kinds.

[Enchanted Spellboard || Ouija Board]

Does anyone have experience with Spirit Boards? Any tips or tricks or suggestions?
I'll naturally post back with our experiences if anything experience-worthy happens.

HSP and Self-Absorption

This thread...I was just browsing and remembering. This thread started in February 2006 and that was so long ago! I am amazed at the evolution of my own life in just that amount of time. I remember doing this diagram, though, like it was yesterday.

February 2006 was still a life-changing time for me where often I was at the whim of emotions overwhelming me. Thank God I am here in March 2008. Anyway. Hope this thread can inspire someone who may be in the middle of negative self-ick. It's okay if you are! :) We have to acknowledge it before we can transcend it I believe. And of course, post to the thread if you're inclined. I just wanted to mosey on down my own personal memory lane.

How to Protect Yourself against Toxic People

This is a good article on How to Protect Yourself against Toxic people. It was one of the biggest problems I used to have in my life and unknowing if it was because I was an HSP, or because I maybe was feeling a different energy from the person than what they were dissembling or prevaricating, it was a real challenge for me to quit thinking I must be crazy.

I learned that people can be can be 'toxic' without being overt about it. The lesson, for me, was to trust my 'self'. The best book that helped me in dealing with toxic people, before I got into codependent recovery, was When I say No, I feel Guilty.
