I just signed with Entrecard and found this article. This guy has a theory so I'm counting down the *6 months he proposes it will last. :)
Today is May 02, 2008 and I signed up May 01, 2008. [Ps. Wanna *drop* your card on me? Or advertise your Entrecard on my site? Since I'm new I think it's still really cheap EC wise.]
*This article was discovered Dec 11 so we have until June 11 2008 for Entrecard to die the painful death Vic proposes. LoL

Being a Girl Kid in 2008
Ellie has done it again. She's managed to speak on and express some things I think about from time to time, particularly since 'Lil Bit' is now 4 and a half!
No, Ellie. Nothing is cute about that. Nothing is cute about looking like a young prostitute with trampy clothes and too much make-up. Nothing is cute about looking like a walking ad for condom use. And yes I partially blame advertising targetted at kids. But mostly I blame absenteeism.
Absenteeism of a good solid role model for the kids; like a parent for example. I believe that a parent or a "Big Sister" or "Big Brother" or even some other mentoring-type program can be of great benefit for these young kids who are being misguided by advertising.
But then there was Christmas. I love 4th's parents; I do. I dislike being around them at their house but that's beside the point. My chagrin was imagined when Lil Bit opened up a gift to find her "Baby Doll." [At 4 she is now a mommy. How cute? What is cute about that?]
If you're clueless as to what this means well...you're probably not a woman who has fought stigma. You've probably no knowledge of what *conditioning* or *implied acceptability* means. I don't want to make this too big of a deal - but even that small act popped me nearly out of my socks! With everything we know...and still...we wonder why teen sex yields babies. And why young girls think a baby - a LIVE one - will complete them?
Couple that with Ellie's post and the promiscuous advertising directed to our young girls and we *have* to think twice. We just have to. Baby dolls, bratz dolls, "perfect" dolls plus acceptable and promiscuous targetting equals a potential destruction of girls identities before they ever begin searching for it!

If you relish a time when lysol was used to cure feminine hygiene and tapeworms were used to cure fatness and there was nothing but love for the use of lard, and how doctors preferred a certain brand of cigarettes, well then stop in to this webpage and let's get nostalgic!

I believe this. I have long thought along the same lines.
"You mean if I watch the endless barrage of Victoria Secret models prancing around half naked and cellulite, wrinkle free with no sleepy boogers in their eyes as they wear their jammies that that may correlate with my desire to buy the jammies and have me believing my ass looks that good and I, too, won't have sleepy boogers in my eyes? And that that would be a result of low self esteem so I have to buy more and more?"
Yes, Virginia. For if your self esteem was up to par you'd realize quite frankly that though you may have a few dimples of cellulite and a few laugh lines on your face and though you have eye boogers pervading your every waking morning...you would know these things and they wouldn't matter.
"Gee. That's swell. Now I know! Now I can stop doing it!"
Good. I'll let you know when I get there.

This commercial is ghetto, tacky, provocative, sexual, skanky...and it's aim is to get you to upgrade to HDTV DirectTV. 4th and I get annoyed every time it comes on and we discuss the parts we loathe about it... Beyonce sold out. DirectTV sold out. It's marketing in its worst form. Vulgar... If we had DirectTV, we'd get rid of it due to this overplayed disaster of a commercial.
PS. Who IS their demographic precisely? This is the first question any advertising campaign should ask themselves. This is the worst I have seen in a long time...since Paris Hilton got naked to advertise Hardee's cheeseburgers.
