"There are tons of rip-off artists working Ebay, and very little Ebay can do about it, although they have been doing a much better job lately (probably due to some legal threats by people that have been burned). When Ebay finds auctions that are definitely scams, they usually remove them, but still quite a few get through. I don't know how it is on other auction sites, but the following info probably applies just as well."
I GOT SCAMMED SELLING ON EBAY
I just got ripped off in over $80 worth of merchandise. I want to kick my ass. I do. I can't believe I did what I did but...We were headed to vacation. The person claimed s/he would sent out MO the next day. Even on my instructions I stated explicitly a hold on MO or checks. BUT because we were leaving and I did not want for this person to have to wait for a long period of time AFTER my return I brought the items with me, found a post office, paid for the shipping from there....got home and 13 days later from close of auction no payment. This person had 15 positive feedbacks. I sent a note to the person yesterday through Ebay. This morning, the person is no longer a member of Ebay.
Lesson: Protect yourself. As much as you want to believe in the goodness of people. As much as you judge others in accordance with how YOU would be in a similar situation, the rest of the world does not necessarily hold your same moral ideals. SHIT. SHIT. SHIT.
